On-Page SEO optimization for Realtors

on page SEO optimization for realtors

Correctly formatting your on page SEO for your real estate website is the number one thing you can do to start ranking for Google. This should be your top priority before trying to get on the front page for any search term. Without proper optimization, it not only will be a lot harder but, you may not be ranking for the keywords you want to.

What is on page SEO optimization? And why does it matter for your real estate website?

On-page SEO is how you structure your websites pages and tell Google what the purpose of the page is. This is done through proper use of HTML tags such as your headers, meta description, URLS and more.  Without these basic optimizations your website might not be ranking for what you want it to be.

Keyword Research

Before setting up your real estate website or blog for success on Google you should do some keyword research. First you’re going to want to identify some keywords to target. Ahrefs and Google Keyword Planner are great tools that will help you with this.  After you find some keywords that you might want to target, the next phase of research is identifying the amount of traffic they’re getting and how competitive it is to obtain a decent ranking.
Google Keyword Tool – Use this for getting the traffic of a keyword
Moz Toolbar – Use this for easily monitoring searches and seeing the difficulty.

You need to trust your gut and think about the type of traffic targeting certain keywords. If you think you can close more leads from a lesser known keyword, then go for it over a harder to obtain keyword with worse quality traffic.

Title Tag

Your title tag is arguably the most important on page SEO factor on your real estate blog / website. Make every title for every page completely unique and targeted to the keyword you’re aiming for.

If you’re homepage is targeting sellers in Orange County, you should first discover what keyword targets that and then have your title target it. If the keyword was “Orange County listing agent” your title should look something like:
<title>Orange Countys #1 listing agent</title>

Header Tags

When you use heading 1, generally your font is going to be bigger and calling attention from the user. Because it’s calling more attention to the user, Google sees this as one of the most important statements on the page.

Don’t over use the tags, especially with the same ‘targeted’ keyword. This if anything will get you penalized.

URL Structure

Your homepage most likely is just going to consist of your domain name. On every other page you’re going to want to make sure that the URL’s are targeted, short and rich with keywords.

For example:
If you have a page on your real estate website that is targeting first time buyers, the URL structure should look something like:

https://yourdomain.com/first-time-buyers-city

Chances are that if you target just the “First time buyer” keyword, it probably has massive competition that you may not be able to compete with yet. If you target first time buyers in orange county then that’s a different story. There is most likely a lot less competition for that keyword and it’s going to be obtainable.

The key thing to remember here is that you’re not just creating this structure to rank on Google. If you don’t have solid content on these pages then the traffic will not convert. Make sure that if you target first time buyers, you’re actually giving them something of value.

Meta Description

Meta descriptions are important for two major reasons. First, they show up in searches under your title. It gives the user a brief description of what your website does and having a really well thought out one can increase the amount of clicks you’re getting.  Second, it also further identify’s to Google’s crawlers what your specific page is about.

Body / Content

It should be pretty obvious that the content that fills your real estate website will also play a huge factor in deciding what keywords Google will rank you for.  Keeping your content as relative and useful to your keyword is the best thing you can do. When adding content to the page, just ask yourself about the keyword you’re targeting.  The better you can do this, the better you’re going to get ranked.

Speed

Google has officially stated that your page loading speed has a direct impact in SEO. You can increase your speed on your real estate blog by using a CDN (content distribution network) and increase speed on your real estate website by paying for a premium hosting company.  If you don’t know what your speed is, check out Google Speed insights.
